Day 1Hailaer-Mergel River-Erguna Wetland-Genhe

Today, head deep into the Hulunbuir Grassland to visit the Mörgel River, which was praised by Mr. Lao She as the 'Number One Curved River in the World'. Upon arrival, enjoy free time on the grassland and take in the beautiful scenery of the Hulunbuir Grassland.

Afterwards, proceed to Erguna, the hometown of Genghis Khan, to visit the Erguna Wetland, an important area for world bird conservation and known as the 'Largest Wetland in Asia'. There, appreciate the original ecological natural landscapes, such as 'Horse Hoof Island' (Mati Dao). The Erguna Wetland is one of the important habitats for the endangered Swan Goose species and a key breeding ground for the Red-crowned Crane.

After the visit, take a car to Genhe, which is known as the 'China Cold Pole'. Upon arrival, check into the hotel and rest.

Day 2Genhe-Aoluguya-Mordaga-Shiwei

After breakfast at the hotel, head deep into the Greater Khingan Mountains to visit the Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe. It is the only ethnic group in China that raises reindeer and is known as 'China’s Last Hunting Tribe.' Upon arrival, visit the Hunter’s Folk Village and the Ewenki Primitive Tribe Reindeer Yard, as well as the Ewenki Museum. This area is recognized as the starting point for 'China’s Santa Claus' and is the homeland of Chinese reindeer culture and birch bark culture.

After the visit, travel through the primeval forests of the Greater Khingan Mountains to Mordaga National Forest Park, the largest national forest park in China with the most complete forest ecological diversity. The park features stunning natural scenery and was once named one of the 'Most Desirable Places in China.' The views of the 'Sea of Forest and Clouds' and the 'Sound of the Wind in the Forest' are considered wonders. After exploring, take the forest mini-train to travel through the ancient forest.

Afterwards, proceed to Shiwei, one of China’s Top Ten Most Charming Towns and a Russian ethnic township. Upon arrival, stroll through the village and view the Russian village across the Erguna River. In the evening, stay in a 'Mukeleng,' a traditional Russian-style log cabin characteristic of Shiwei.

Day 3Shiwei-Hawuer River-Enhe-Heishantou

After breakfast at the hotel, head to the Hawuer River Scenic Area to view the Hawu'er River, known as the 'Number One Curved River in the Forest'. Appreciate its thousand gentle curves and learn about the ancient and mysterious hunting life.

Then, take a car to Enhe Russian Ethnic Township. Upon arrival, visit a Russian family to learn about the lifestyle customs and religious beliefs of the Russian ethnic group, watch a traditional instrument performance, and listen to ethnic specialty songs.

Afterwards, proceed to the Heishantou Grassland for a grassland horseback riding experience (an in-depth ride through the grassland lasting no less than 1 hour).

Finally, head to the grassland Mongolian yurt camp for an overnight stay in a traditional yurt.

Day 4Heishantou-Manzhouli

Wake up early to watch the grassland sunrise.

After breakfast, head to the Heishantou Grassland Mongolian Pasture to experience fun Mongolian folk activities, including a barrel mini-train ride, dressing up in Mongolian ethnic attire for photos, trying Mongolian archery, tasting specialty Mongolian milk tea, and feeding lambs.

After the activities, drive to the Chinese border city of Manzhouli. Upon arrival, visit Matryoshka Square (Taowa Guangchang) to see the world's largest matryoshka dolls and uniquely shaped buildings, watch a featured grand circus performance, and experience the cultural ambiance of China, Mongolia, and Russia.

Day 5Manzhouli-Hulun Lake-Amugulang

After breakfast at the hotel, head to the western shore of Hulun Lake (Dalai Lake), which is listed as an 'Internationally Important Wetland' and is one of China's five major freshwater lakes.

Upon arrival, travel along the west shore to visit the Genghis Khan Horse Taming Stake (Chengjisihan Taomazhuang). Afterwards, proceed to Hulun Lake Golden Beach to enjoy the natural landscape of Hulun Lake.

After that, take a car to the Gandan Dorjiin (Ganjur) Temple, the largest Lama temple in the Hulunbuir area. The temple is named after the collection of the Kanjur scriptures in Tibetan and Mongolian, and its architectural style blends Chinese, Mongolian, and Tibetan cultures.

After visiting, travel by car to the New Barag Left Banner (Xinba'erhuzuo Qi), staying overnight in Amugulang Town.

Day 6Amugulang-Arxan

After having breakfast at the hotel, take a car to the Arxan National Forest Park. Upon arrival, visit the Arxan Tianchi (Heaven Lake), China's third-largest high-mountain lake, to experience the uncanny workmanship of nature.

Day 7Arxan-Hailaer

After breakfast, you will explore the magical and picturesque Three Ponds Canyon (San Tan Xia), including the Wo Niu Tan (Lying Ox Pond), Hu Shi Tan (Tiger Stone Pond), and Yue Xin Tan (Joyful Heart Pond).

Next, you will visit the Shitanglin (Stone Forest), which is the largest recent dormant volcano basalt landform in Asia (named for the dense forest growing on volcanic lava and numerous ponds scattered throughout).

You will then proceed to visit the volcanic barrier lake, Du Juan Lake (Azalea Lake), which is named for the azalea flowers that bloom around its shores every spring.

After the visits are concluded, you will travel by car back to Hailar.

Climate and Altitude

Generally speaking Mid March—End Oct are the best time to visit Silk Road. And we strongly suggest you come in May, June, October to avoid the heat and crowd. No need to worry about high altitude along the Silk Road. We will prepare Oxygen bags if the package includes Xiahe, Qinghai Lake and Taxkorgan County.
