Xinjiang and Gansu Tour Feedback

Zhangye to Dunhuang

• Peter, our guide, was friendly and helpful. He accompanied my sister-in-law to shop for a luggage as the lock for her luggage was damaged. Although he had an English accent and Mandarin accent which we sometimes had difficulty understand, we were able to get what he was saying after clarifying. He has good local knowledge and is also able to share historical insights about the places that we visited. I had long conversation with him on the bus and appreciated what he shared about living in Dunhuang. He recommended the local food that we should try in each city. We also enjoyed the food at the places that he recommended to us. From picking us up from Lanzhou station, settling room arrangement, and sending us off at Dunhuang station, he was very professional and helped our two most seniors in our group with the luggage. I must compliment his service attitude. He also worked well with the driver as a team.

• The driver for this segment was friendly and had good service attitude. He was careful in his driving and ensured a smooth ride for us.

• The quality and service at the hotels in Gansu were good. The rooms were clean and spacious. There was good selection of food at the buffet breakfast.

Heavenly Lake & Urumqi

• Although we only had her as our guide for a day, she is very professional. She has good knowledge of the places that we visited and about Xinjiang. She is fluent in spoken English.

• Our driver was polite and friendly. He delivered his service with a smile.

• We enjoyed our stay at the Atour Hotel in Urumqi.

Kanas & Hemu

• AJ is friendly, has very good service attitude and good knowledge of the places that we visited. Although we had issue with the room arrangement in Hemu, he suggested we had lunch while the issue was being resolved. He discussed with us the arrangement for visiting the places of interest, so that we had good use of our time in Hemu and Kanas. He was concerned about the logistical issue when travelling from our Kanas hotel to where our bus was to pick us up to return to Altay. He explained the situation and shared a few suggestions with me, so that I could make an informed decision with my group.

• Our lodges in Hemu and Kanas were smaller, but clean. Fortunately, the weather was good, and AJ helped our two seniors in the group with the luggage. I appreciate the location as they are near to the river in Hemu and near to the lake in Kanas.

Southern Xinjiang

• Loyik, our guide, is very fluent in spoken English and Mandarin. He has very good local knowledge of Southern Xinjiang and the local culture and customs. He also shared good tips on shopping for souvenirs. He is very professional, gave us sufficient time to explore the places. He is friendly and works well with the driver.

• We have a good driver for this segment. He is careful and the long drive was comfortable.

• Our hotels in Southern Xinjiang were comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly.

Overall

• Overall, we had a great time in Xinjiang and Gansu. We had learned more about this region.

It has truly been a memorable journey through both South and North Xinjiang, ending in Xining. A big thank you to Lesley for organising such a wonderful itinerary, and to Penny for taking care of all the logistics throughout the trip.
