Day 1Welcome to the Holy City of Lhasa

Your tour begins in Lhasa, the heart and soul of Tibet! Nestled at 3,650 meters above sea level, this enchanting city blends rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and deep spirituality. Upon arrival, your friendly guide will greet you at the airport or train station and escort you to your hotel. Take the rest of the day to relax and acclimatize to the high altitude. Sip some warm butter tea and soak in the mystical atmosphere of this sacred land.

Day 2Discover the Treasures of Lhasa

Wake up to Lhasa's golden sunshine, known as the "Sunlight City" for its 3,000+ hours of annual sunshine! Your first stop is the legendary Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the former winter palace of the Dalai Lama. Towering 12,139 feet above sea level, this 13-story marvel houses over 1,000 rooms adorned with intricate murals, sacred stupas, and priceless artifacts. Feel the weight of history as you wander through its grand halls.  

Next, visit the spiritual heart of Tibet—Jokhang Temple. This 1,300-year-old gem pulses with the devotion of pilgrims. Marvel at the golden statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, the temple's most sacred treasure. Just outside, lose yourself in the vibrant energy of Barkhor Street, where pilgrims circle the temple and vendors sell colorful prayer wheels, handmade jewelry, and traditional Tibetan crafts. Don't forget to haggle for a unique souvenir!

Day 3Monasteries & Monks’ Debates

Today, delve deeper into Tibetan Buddhism. Start at Drepung Monastery, once the world's largest monastery, housing 10,000 monks! Explore its maze-like halls and admire the grand Coqen Hall, where the Dalai Lama once resided.  

In the afternoon, head to Sera Monastery, famous for its lively monks' debates. Watch as robed monks engage in passionate philosophical discussions, clapping hands and gesturing dramatically. It's a fascinating spectacle! Peek into ancient chapels glowing with golden Buddha statues and centuries-old murals—bring a flashlight to see them in full glory.

Day 4Yamdrok Lake & Gyantse’s Architectural Wonder

Brace yourself for jaw-dropping scenery as you drive to Gyantse! Cross the Gampala Pass (4,790m) for a bird's-eye view of Yamdrok Lake, a turquoise jewel cradled by snow-capped peaks. Tibetans believe its ever-changing blues are the scattered earrings of a goddess—capture this magic on camera!  

In Gyantse, visit the Pelkor Monastery and the stunning Kumbum Stupa, a masterpiece blending temple and pagoda. Climb its tiers to discover 10,000 Buddha statues and vibrant murals. By evening, arrive in Shigatse, Tibet's second-largest city.

Day 5The Mighty Everest Beckons

Today's highlight: Mount Everest! Traverse high passes like Pang La (5,050m), where—on a clear day—you'll see five of the world's tallest peaks in one frame. Arrive at Rongbuk Monastery, the planet's highest temple (5,154m), and gasp at Everest's north face looming just 20km away. As the sun sets, watch the peak glow pink—a moment you'll never forget.

Day 6Sunrise Over Everest & Return to Shigatse

Day 7Tashilunpo Monastery & Scenic Drive to Lhasa

Tour Tashilunpo Monastery, the Panchen Lama's seat, home to a 26-meter-tall gilded Maitreya Buddha. Later, unwind on a 6-hour drive to Lhasa, tracing the Brahmaputra River's shimmering waters.

Day 8Heavenly Namtso Lake

Venture to Namtso Lake, Tibet's "Heavenly Lake." En route, spot yaks grazing under the Nyenchen Thanglha Mountains. At Namtso, walk its shores, visit Tashi Island, and witness a sunset that paints the sky in fiery hues. Spend the night in Damxung under a blanket of stars.

Day 9Chimelong Nunnery & Tsurphu Monastery

Climate and Altitude

Generally speaking Mid March—End Oct are the best time to visit Silk Road. And we strongly suggest you come in May, June, October to avoid the heat and crowd. No need to worry about high altitude along the Silk Road. We will prepare Oxygen bags if the package includes Xiahe, Qinghai Lake and Taxkorgan County.
