Silk Road Travel with Kids
As one of the most profound routes of history and culture, the Silk Road is a great choice for parents to help kids better understand the development of ancient China. I am usually asked if the Silk Road is suitable for kids. Yes, it is suitable for kids. The facilities in each site along the Silk Road are improved, such as express trains, good hotels, and toilets.
I take a Silk Road inspection trip every 2 years during holidays with my kids. When they were very young, under 5 years old, they just experienced the trip without being interested in culture and introductions, but they were happy with the trains, camel riding, and playing in the parks. I want to share with you some very different experiences with my kids along the Silk Road.

It was 9 years ago when our family of 3 visited Xiahe during the Shoton Festival. Unfortunately, my 3-year-old daughter got a fever because of the high altitude and cold weather, I assumed. Maybe in summer, it will be no problem. Besides, everything else was perfect.
Another memory was in 2016. We were already a family of five. We revisited Jiayuguan and Dunhuang. I think it was a hard job for Papa to carry our son while climbing the Jiayuguan Fort, but his comment was "no problem" :).
A great experience was our visit to Mogao Caves. The 4D movie attracted the kids very much before we entered the caves. The two younger kids had no interest at all. But my oldest daughter even prepared her notebook and followed the professional guide closely. She told me many historical facts and interesting stories when we went back to the hotel. She was very proud that she had visited this UNESCO World Heritage Site when they studied it at school and gave a detailed introduction to her classmates.

This year, we revisited Zhangye. Danxia Rainbow Mountain has become so popular in recent years. The same is true for Binggou Danxia. I would like to share my personal opinion.
I was born in Yili Prefecture, Xinjiang. The landscapes there are very familiar to me compared with the Danxia Parks in Zhangye. I am a traveler who likes culture, history, and art. If you ask me my comments on Danxia Park, Rainbow Mountain is good to visit, while Binggou Danxia can be removed from your plan unless you are very interested in hiking and geography :).
Oh, I love the Mati Temple, located at the foot of Qilian Mountain. It is beautiful and amazing. It takes you one and a half days to visit the Giant Buddha Temple, Mati Temple, and Danxia Park. I had no time to check the Kaoshan Tent, but it seemed quite good from our clients' comments.
In conclusion, the Silk Road is good for a family holiday with kids. And as the mother of three kids, I will look after you and your kids very well :).
