Gulangyu Island

As a prestigious World Cultural Heritage Site, Gulangyu Island is famed for its serene coastal scenery, lush greenery, and well-preserved century-old colonial and Minnan-style villas. Free from motor vehicles, the island features quiet lanes, blooming flowers and a leisurely slow-paced atmosphere, making it ideal for casual walking and sightseeing. You need to take a ferry from Xiamen Ferry Terminal or Dongdu Ferry Terminal, and it is suggested to book ferry tickets online 1 to 3 days ahead. Must-see highlights include Sunlight Rock with panoramic sea views and elegant Shuzhuang Garden. It is best to visit between 9:00 and 16:00 to enjoy comfortable weather and avoid the evening peak.
Huandao Road

It is a coastal scenic road spanning about 43 kilometers, with the most popular section from Baicheng Beach to Huangcuo Beach. You can rent a bicycle (CNY 20-50/day) or an electric bike to ride along the coast, enjoying the sea view. The best time to visit is after 16:00 in the afternoon to avoid the heat and catch the beautiful sunset. Nearby attractions include Zengcuo'an (a snack street) and Hulishan Fortress, which can be visited together.
Xiamen Botanical Garden

Xiamen Botanical Garden is a natural urban oxygen bar with rich plant resources and layered landscape scenery. It gathers a great variety of tropical and subtropical plants, featuring lush woods, quiet lakes and diverse themed garden areas. The most popular spots are the Rainforest World, which creates a dreamy fairy-tale atmosphere with regular mist spraying, and the Succulent Plant Area, a perfect spot for photography. Since the garden covers a large area with rolling hills, you can buy a sightseeing bus ticket for CNY 10 per person for unlimited one-day rides to save walking energy.
South Putuo Temple
Open 8:00 a.m.-18:00 p.m.
You can get one free incense stick at the entrance, and it is necessary to abide by Buddhist etiquette: keep quiet, do not take photos of Buddha statues, and dress appropriately. The temple is adjacent to Xiamen University, and you can arrange a day trip. It takes about 1.5 hours to visit the temple alone, and 3 hours if you climb Wulao Peak (attached to the temple).
No.8 Market
Open 6:00 a.m. - 21:00 p.m.
It is a local food market with the most authentic Xiamen fireworks. You can buy fresh seafood (processing services are available nearby) and various Minnan snacks, such as A Jie Wuxiang, Zhu Ji Shredded Chicken and Shacha Noodles. The market has a fair scale for weight checking, so you can buy with confidence. It is recommended to visit in the morning or afternoon to avoid the peak hours of local shopping.
Yongding Tulou
Open 8:00 a.m. - 17:30 p.m.
Located a 2.5 to 3-hour drive from Xiamen, Yongding Tulou is home to well-preserved ancient Hakka earthen buildings. Its major scenic areas include the Hongkeng Tulou Group and the Gaobei Tulou Group. Hongkeng features Zhencheng Building, honored as the “Tulou Prince”, which blends Chinese and Western architectural styles with exquisite carvings. Gaobei is famous for Chengqi Building, known as the “Tulou King” — the largest round tulou with a diameter of 73 meters and four concentric rings, once accommodating more than 800 residents. A 4 to 5-hour visit with a guide is recommended to learn about Hakka culture, clan traditions and the history of these unique ancient dwellings.

Spring: With a pleasant temperature ranging from 15℃ to 25℃, spring is ideal for flower viewing and leisurely city sightseeing. The weather is mild and comfortable, perfect for wandering coastal roads, botanical gardens and old streets in Xiamen.
Summer: Summer is hot and humid, with temperatures between 26℃ and 33℃. It is the best time for beach relaxation and various water sports. Note that occasional typhoons may occur during this period, so it is advisable to check the weather forecast before outdoor arrangements.
Autumn: Regarded as Xiamen’s best travel season, autumn features mild and dry weather at 20℃ to 28℃. It is highly suitable for cycling along Huandao Road and tasting fresh seasonal seafood, offering an extremely comfortable travel experience.
Winter: Winter belongs to the tourist low season in Xiamen. The climate stays mild at 10℃ to 18℃ without severe cold. The city is less crowded, with lower accommodation and travel costs, making it quiet and cost-effective for in-depth slow travel.

How to Get to Xiamen?
By Flight
Fly to Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (XMN), 10 km from downtown. It offers frequent domestic flights and international routes to Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, and Europe. Take Metro Line 1 (25–30 mins) or an airport shuttle bus (CNY 15–20) to the city center. Taxis and ride-hailing services (Didi) are also available for direct transfers.
By High-Speed Train
Xiamen has two major stations:
Xiamen Station: In central Siming District, an ideal choice.
Xiamen North Station: In Jimei District, connected to the city via Metro Line 1 or BRT (30–40 mins).
High-speed trains link Xiamen directly to Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other major cities.
